Guest Post/Virtual Tour ~ Once Upon A Fairytale Princess by Adrianna Morgan

A Fairytale Love Affair

One question many readers love to ask me is why I chose to write about fairytales.  “Once upon a Fairytale Princess”, “Fairytale Flirtations” and even the new series I am currently working on, “House of Valnak” all have elements of fairytales deeply embedded.  So why fairytales?  It’s simple.  I like them.
I think I was about nine or ten, when I discovered mythology.  And not just Greek mythology, oh no, I was engrossed with tales from the Romans, the Chinese, Persia and any other country I could find.  It became more than wanting to be a Disney Princess (although I would rather be Jasmine than any other because she was more exotic); instead it was about finding the next story, the next tale, which would take me on some vivid journey into a place I was utterly unfamiliar with.
My favorite story growing up was not a fairytale in the classical sense.  It was a book about demons (djinns) set in Morocco.  Called “Mischief in Fez,” it chronicled the life of a young boy whose father marries a woman who refuses to observe the customs of the house until it is revealed to him by his pet fennec (desert fox) that the woman is actually a demon goddess and the boy has to save his family.  By all accounts, it had all the elements which as an adult, I love in books and as a writer, I love to incorporate.  It also helped foster my love of the unusual.  My first series, “The Blue Moon Trilogy,” uses elements from Native American stories and as one reviewer put it, “is a new twist on how I became a werewolf.”
Fairytales are a means of escape, allowing us find an alternate reality.  And I chose to use fairytales because they are so familiar.  We have read them, watched them and seen them portrayed again and again in various movies and we find ourselves yearning for them in real life.  What woman is not looking for her Prince Charming?  What woman does not want the romance the Princesses found with their Princes’?  Granted, Snow White’s prince kissing a woman he thought was dead was kind of creepy, but that element of happily-ever-after-even-the-chambermaid-can-get-the-prince has a special place in all our hearts.
So fairytales will continue to live on.  And it is more than teaching a new generation of girls that they need a man to sweep them off their feet, rather, I look at it as teaching a new generation of girls to never settle for anything less than a prince.  If a man treats you like you are his princess and you can envision a happily ever after, then go for it.  Many people are anti-fairytales, not wanting to spread the image of women as simpering females.  I never interpreted any of my heroines in such a way.  Most of the Princesses held jobs and were independent before they met their Prince Charmings.  Who is to say that they did not remain that way?
“Once upon a Fairytale Princess” follows a young woman in the image of our archetypal Princess, except there is an element of magic and intrigue stemming from my youth which makes this story unique.  The interplay between the main characters shows that not all Princes’ are brave and noble and not all brave, noble men are Princes’.  And in typical fairytale fashion, the story plays up the idea that the most powerful person in the kingdom is not always a man.
So is my love of fairytales at an end?  Definitely not!  As long as I can write, I will continue to find new ways to twist fairytales and make them unique.  Who knows what I might come up with next!  Snow White as an escapee from intergalactic prison in which she joins a band of rebels on a ship to infiltrate the government and expose their corruption?  Perhaps.

In a matter of moments, Ella Fitzpatrick’s life went from bad to worse. Her father’s boast pits her against every seamstress in the village all vying for the ultimate prize—guest of honor at the Prince’s ball. Once there, Ella catches the eye of the charming prince and manages to make a powerful enemy; one who is not above using magic to aid her quest. Now Ella is on the run, chasing the very villain who killed her mother ten years ago and who may be trying to kill her now. The only thing stopping Ella is her lack of knowledge about her own magical background—and Hunter, the Prince’s brooding bodyguard. Hunter Kirk has been in love with Ella since she promised to marry him when they were children. Now she is pledged to his Prince and someone might be trying to kill her. He has to get to her before the last Fitzpatrick sorceress is killed—and he loses his chance to tell her how much he loves her.

Adrianna Morgan was born in the Bahamas. Of both West Indian and African ancestry, she was exposed to the shadowy world of the supernatural at a young age. She was blessed with a mother that knew the importance of a good ghost story making her fascinated by anything that goes bump in the night. Adrianna is obsessed with werewolves, vampires and demons, oh my! A Marine Biology teacher by day, she is still intrigued by the weird and the unusual. Currently, she has 10 books on Amazon and has challenged herself to write one full novel per month this year, although she admits she is ready to throw in the towel. Almost.  Adrianna writes Urban Fantasy, Erotica and Romance.
