In the summer of 1979, twenty-one-year-old Linda Kovic contracts to become an au pair for an wealthy French family in the Loire Valley. To secure the position, she pretends to speak the language, fully aware her deception will be discovered once she arrives at her destination. Based on the author’s diary, French Illusions captures Linda’s fascinating real-life story inside and outside the Château de Montclair. The over-bearing, Madame Dubois, her accommodating husband, Monsieur Dubois, and their two children are highlighted as Linda struggles to adapt to her new environment. Continually battling the language barrier, she signs up and attends classes at the local university in the nearby town of Tours, broadening her range of experiences. When she encounters, Adam, a handsome young student, her life with the Dubois family becomes more complicated, adding fuel to her internal battle for independence.

I would love to visit France–I took French in high school and college but I’m sure I’ve forgotten it all now—maybe a quickie refresher course would allow me to speak to the “natives”.
I don’t really have any interest in France…From what I hear, the French don’t really like us…
I would love to see The Eiffel Tower
Wow, way to go to get this published. Having lived in another country for 2 years. After taking two different clases to learn the language and still tangled a bit with it. I can only guess what complications could arise.
Wouldn’t want to travel right now, too many health issues for one. Saw enough bad stuff when I did so don’t like to travel overseas at all now.
I really have never had a desire to travel abroad, there are so many places in the states I’d love to see.
I would love to see France. It is a beautiful place . But I wont fly in an airplane and surely cant afford it. So Im incline to accept I will never go there
I visited France as a young child with my mother and brother and don’t recall anything.
Absolutely! I’d love to see both the city and the countryside. Oh, and the food! I could plan an entire trip to France just based on all the things and places at which I’d like to eat.
At this point in time, no, I would not want to visit France. I have no desire to travel to any other country the way things are today.

I think it would be a lot of fun and the landmarks/attractions there would be so interesting to see. Expensive though??

Yes, I have wanted to visit France since I took French in high school
Visiting France? History is always a treat and finding it on your own a double treat. I was there long ago and it would be all new now. That is both scary and enticing. Rather puts me in a carpe diem frame of mind, the world is changing so rapidly that some things will be totally gone if we wait too long.
its a romantic city but i have no desire to go there right now
