Guest Post with Giveaway ~ Shadow Of A Spout by Amanda Cooper

There is a common theme among the tastes of many cozy mystery readers. We like cats. And dogs. We are often crafty and collect stuff. We read. In fact we read a lot!

And we like tea. We drink a lot of tea. Gallons and gallons of white and green and black, chai and iced, hibiscus and jasmine, often while reading a cozy mystery and petting a cat. Many of my cozy reading friends post photos on Facebook of their cats lolling in sunshine, often on top of a book or two.

Now I’m not saying you can’t pet a dog while reading a mystery. Or drink coffee. I’m just saying there is something especially comforting about drinking tea and petting a cat while reading a cozy. What I find fascinating as I canvass cozy readers is how many books they read! Some admit to only (!!) reading five to ten a month, but many read twenty or even thirty… a book a day in some cases!

So as I consider all of this information, I realize that all of these things have something in common. Collecting and crafts, dogs and cats, tea and cozy mysteries… it’s all about comfort. Those of us who read cozy mysteries like to wrap ourselves in a blanket (on a cold day) or sit out in the garden (on a lovely day) and enjoy a comforting cup of tea while we read a comforting cozy mystery. In a cozy no one is going to gross us out with a detailed description of an autopsy, nor are they going to clamber inside a deranged serial killer’s mind. No cozy author is going to drag the reader into the bedroom and record every ooh and ahh. Most lovemaking is tastefully left to the reader’s imagination. And while we may edge toward terror (after all, it is a murder mystery!) we are not going to suffer nightmares afterwards or have to sleep with the lights on. And the murderer will be caught and brought to justice.

And that is just how we roll. Life is stressful; comfort is rare. It’s lovely to find it in a cup of tea or between the covers of a cozy mystery.

Her granddaughter Sophie is minding the tea house while she’s away. Rose is eager for tough cookie Zunia Pettigrew to appraise a prized antique teapot she believes may be a holy water vessel from China.

But when Zunia declares the pot a fake, Rose is really steamed. After Zunia’s found dead beside Rose’s dinged-in teapot, Sophie must rush to her grandmother’s aid and find the real killer—before Rose is steeped in any more trouble…

Amanda Cooper is the pseudonym for bestselling mystery author Victoria Hamilton. She writes the Vintage Kitchen Mysteries and the Merry Muffin Mysteries as Hamilton, in addition to the Teapot Collector Mysteries as Amanda Cooper.

Cooper’s long time love of mystery novels started at age twelve when her mom handed her an Agatha Christie book and said ‘Read!’. Thousands of novels later Cooper is still reading. And writing.

But besides those two favorite pastimes, Cooper also enjoys collecting vintage kitchenalia, old books, teacups, teapots and other ephemera. Perfume is her secret addiction. She likes to cook, hates to clean, and enjoys time spent with friends chatting over wine or tea. She loves crafts, loathes boredom, and her guilty pleasure is ‘reality’ TV, which she knows is largely fake but enjoys anyway.

Cooper thinks that people are the most interesting study of all, and more than anything, she loves to hear from readers, not just about her books but about anything and everything.

  1. I like to read just to relieve the stress in my life.

  2. Love reading all 3 series!  Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. Cynthia E. Blain says:

I have just about every one of the books written by Amanda/Victoria but don't have Shadow of a Spout.  It would be my absolute pleasure to add this book to her others.  I like to get three or four books in a series ready to read and read straight through as I enjoy thme so much that way, although I have read one only in one series, but will catch up very soon after a long illness and not being able to read as I used to.

Great writing for all of these series and looking forward to reading the latest release one way or another.  🙂

Thank you for having this author on your blog and for the giveaway.

    Cynthia B.

  4. When I am reading cozies I read about a book every night or two. Some how when I am reading anything else it seems to take forever to get through them! Thank goodness for cozies and the wonderful authors that write them!!
