Interview with Giveaway ~ The Rogue You Know by Shana Galen

Thanks so much for having me today, Lori!

  1. Describe your book in 5 words.

Passion * Adventure * Humor * Excitement * Fun

  1. What books do you love that don’t get a lot of hype?

Since I write historical romance, sometimes I like to read outside my genre. There are two series I adore that don’t get enough attention, in my opinion. The first is The Razorland Series by Ann Aguirre. It’s set in a dystopian world where strange mutant creatures terrorize the remaining humans. It’s fast-paced, exciting, and a wonderful love story. The second is the Until the End of the World series by Sarah Lyons Fleming. This series is like zombie chick lit. It’s absolutely one of the best series I have ever read. The characters felt like friends, and I loved it even though I don’t read zombie books!

Two historical romance authors I feel should get more hype are Theresa Romain and Sally Orr.

  1. Do your characters really talk to you?

I don’t know that they so much talk to me as dialogue pops into my head either while I’m writing or while I’m doing some mundane chore like folding laundry or emptying the dishwasher. Whole pages of dialogue and narration can scroll through my mind, and I have to run to my computer to get it down before I forget.

  1. How do you react to a bad review?

I take it in stride. I can separate me, the person, from the book I’ve written. I know I can’t make every reader happy with every book. Sometimes the reviewer has valid points about a weakness in the book, and I do make note of that and keep it in mind for the next book.

  1. Do you write as you go, or do you have the book all planned out from page 1?

Oh, I definitely write as I go. In fact, I have to submit an outline to sell the book, but my editor knows to always ask for a revised outline before sending the outline to the sales and marketing people. When I write a book, I allow the story to take over and ignore any plans or dictates. For me, the process works best if I let the book unfold organically.

Thanks again for having me!

shanaShana Galen is the bestselling author of fast-paced adventurous Regency historicals, including the RT Reviewers' Choice The Making of a Gentleman. Booklist says, "Galen expertly entwines espionage-flavored intrigue with sizzling passion," and RT Bookreviews calls her "a grand mistress of the action/adventure subgenre." She taught English at the middle and high school level off and on for eleven years. Most of those years were spent working in Houston's inner city. Now she writes full time. She's happily married and has a daughter who is most definitely a romance heroine in the making. 9. Pat Walker Pinkston says:

Roarke from the In Death series by JD Robb. But, you’d have to call the genre romantic suspense, I guess.
