Guest Post with Giveaway ~ Death In The Stacks by Jenn McKinlay

People frequently ask me where I get my ideas. Well, twenty years in the trenches of public service in libraries has given me an endless supply of material to use in the books. Material that I am happy to use to commit murder and mayhem! I bet you never thought there could be so much wrath and destruction surrounding those shy, quiet librarian types. Little known fact: Not all librarians are shy or very quiet for that matter.

Back when I worked for the city of Phoenix, our Friends of the Library group would host an annual fundraiser called Dinner in the Stacks. It was pretty much what you’d expect — a fancy dinner after hours, when the library was closed, with music, dancing, a silent auction, all to help raise money to fund the library and its needs. It was pretty great. One year, I even offered up the opportunity to be a character in one of the Library Lover’s mysteries. It made over three-hundred and fifty dollars at auction!

Of course, having worked so closely with the Friends of the Library during these formal dinners, I knew that a fancy shmancy dinner at the library was the perfect opportunity to murder one of the local muckety-mucks in town. Fundraisers like these are sort of like weddings, there is so much to do and coordinate over a long period of time that opinions get sharp and tempers get short. And at some point someone is going to snap! And in the case of the Library Lover’s mysteries, it looks like it might be one of their own.

Lindsey Norris and her staff are gearing up for the Briar Creek Library’s annual Dinner in the Stacks fund-raiser. The night of dinner and dancing is not only a booklover’s dream—it’s the library’s biggest moneymaker of the year. But instead of raising funds, the new library board president is busy raising a stink and making the staff miserable.

Although Olive Boyle acts like a storybook villain, Lindsey is determined to work with her and make the event a success. But when Olive publicly threatens the library’s newest hire, Paula, Lindsey cracks like an old book spine and throws Olive out of the library.

The night of the fund-raiser, Lindsey dreads another altercation with Olive—but instead finds Paula crouched over Olive’s dead body. Paula may have secrets, but Lindsey and the rest of the crafternooners know she’s not the one who took Olive out of circulation. As the plot thickens, Lindsey must catch the real killer before the book closes on Paula’s future . . . for good.

Thanks so much for inviting me to visit today.

Happy Reading!

Jenn
